In order to make handloom sector more sustainable, organized and competitive against machine made fabrics and also provide an assured market and better price for their product, this programme has been developed

Objective

providing Lighting Units under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) is to improve the working conditions of handloom weavers by ensuring reliable lighting, particularly in areas with inadequate electricity. This boosts productivity and supports sustainable practices through solar-powered systems.

Benefits

increase productivity by allowing weavers to work longer hours with reliable lighting. They also promote sustainability by providing solar-powered solutions, reducing energy costs and improving working conditions.

Eligibility

This scheme is only for the weavers who are identified in the BLC

There is no application process. The BLC are identified by State level through agency hired by the government.
